About the Department:

The Department of Civil Engineering at University Teaching Department, CSVTU, Bhilai offers comprehensive undergraduate (B.Tech.) and postgraduate (M.Tech.) programs. Our curriculum, aligned with the Chhattisgarh Swami Vivekananda Technical University (CSVTU), Bhilai syllabus, covers critical aspects of civil engineering, including the planning, design, construction, and management of infrastructure projects.

Civil engineering is a profession dedicated to improving quality of life by creating and maintaining essential infrastructure. Our curriculum emphasizes both practical and theoretical knowledge, preparing students to design sustainable buildings, transportation systems, water resource systems and environmental solutions.
The department’s state-of-the-art laboratories offer hands-on experience in civil engineering practices, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world scenarios and fostering innovation and technical proficiency.

I) B. Tech (Honours) in Civil Engineering

  • B. Tech (Honours) in Civil Engineering – 60 Seats

II) Admission Details:

  • The total intake is 60 each, i.e 60 for B. Tech (Honours) in Civil Engineering .
  • Admission for 50 percent seats of four year degree course B.Tech (Honours) will be done through Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) / Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) co-ordinating admission of Joint Entrance Examination (Main) (or other similar bodies as the case may be) and admission for remaining 50 percent seats will be done through Directorate of Technical Education coordinating admission of CGPET.
  • The vacant seats after CSAB/JoSAA and CGDTE counseling will be filled by University Counseling.

Laboratory:

  • Advanced geomatics lab with Hybrid Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) for any time anywhere High resolution image acquisition facility with inbuilt GNSS, Multiple DGPS with RTK and Radio facility, Electronic Total Stations, GIS Application Licenced Software, Licenced Designing and Modelling software. We also have established an application server to run the enterprise applications, as well as the data storage facility, real-time interface profession software packages for comprehensive large data acquisition, management, and distribution from the cloud and for user based request for relevant data, web maps, and query-based geoportals.
  • Advanced Geotechnical Lab has been established in the department. The lab provides specialized consultancy services in the field of geotechnical engineering. The lab is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for conducting advanced research in geotechnical engineering.
  • Advanced Hydrology and Hydraulics Lab in the department to enhance professional consultation and research in the fields of water resources management, environmental engineering, and related disciplines. This state-of-the-art laboratory is equipped with cutting-edge technology and tools to facilitate comprehensive studies and simulations of water flow, sediment transport, and hydrological processes.
  • EWRE also have computational lab for the PG students and research scholars.

R & D:

  • The department has completed several consultancy projects in the last 5 years for different government agencies such as Chhattisgarh state water resources department, Chhattisgarh state PHE department, Chhattisgarh state Power Generation Company Limited (CSPGCL), South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), among others.

  • The e-library at CSVTU Bhilai provides students and faculty with extensive digital resources. It includes a vast collection of e-books, e-journals, research papers, and online databases.   • Smart class technology at CSVTU Bhilai enhances the teaching and learning experience through interactive digital tools. Classrooms are equipped with smart boards, projectors, and audio-visual aids that facilitate multimedia presentations and dynamic teaching methods. This technology enables real-time collaboration, video conferencing, and access to online resources, making learning more engaging and effective.
  • CSVTU Bhilai offers PhD programs across various disciplines, encouraging advanced research and academic excellence. These courses are designed to provide rigorous training in research methodologies, critical analysis, and scholarly communication. The university provides access to well-equipped laboratories, experienced faculty, and research grants to support doctoral candidates in their academic pursuits.
  • The computational lab at CSVTU Bhilai is a state-of-the-art facility designed to support students and researchers in computer science and related fields. The lab is equipped with high-performance computing systems, advanced software tools, and simulation platforms. It provides an ideal environment for conducting experiments, developing software, and performing complex computations essential for academic and research projects.
  • CSVTU Bhilai places a strong emphasis on practical learning through internships and industrial training. The university collaborates with various industries and organizations to offer students hands-on experience in real-world environments. These programs help students apply theoretical knowledge, develop professional skills, and gain valuable insights into industry practices. Internships and industrial training are integral parts of the curriculum, preparing students for successful careers.

Departmental Activities:

  • EWRE have the nodal unit responsible for managing and coordinating all activities related to industrial research and consultancy and also providing support to the researchers to liaise with (potential) funding sources so as to be able to finance their research and development activities.
  • Under TEQIP-III, several workshops, training programs and Faculty development programs were organized and attended by the faculty and staff of the EWRE department.
  • Students, staff and faculty of the EWRE department have published and presented a total of over 50 journal articles, conference papers and book chapters over the last 5 years.
